Hexagram 18 uses the analogy of a jar filled with worms and poisonous insects that are bred for a long time and have become toxic. The analogy is used to show the consequences of bad habits or practices that have been going on for a long time and things are bad. The goal should be to fix the situation by removing what is causing the corruption or toxic situation. It will require major effort as well as certain steps to fix the problems but there will be success in rectifying things.
Steps must be taken to rectify a problems and its an ongoing process every time something comes up that spoils things. Any progress made must be examined and double checked. It could refer to mental health and addictions, relationships or organizations. It needs to be stopped immediately so that it does not become a worse.
The first step is to search for and identify the source of the problem before you can remedy the situation. This will require major effort because it has been going on for a long time. It will take three days set things right and another three days afterwards to stabilize the situation.
